Tyler Wright Sports and English Scholarship

Annual Scholarship(s) will be awarded in memory of Tyler Wright to senior High School students(s) who attend the Marathon High School in Marathon, Florida.

Background:

Tyler tragically passed away on May 5, 2024, while doing what he loved most, fishing. He was kayaking on Michigan’s Little Bay de Noc Lake when the accident occurred. Tyler grew up in Port Huron, Michigan and attended Port Huron Northern High School where he played tennis and basketball.

Tyler began his career at Marathon High School as an English teacher, and coached golf and middle-school basketball for two years. Tyler’s kindness and positive spirit impacted many students, fellow teachers at Marathon High School and anyone he met, including the local tennis community and his friends and family in his hometown of Port Huron, Michigan.

Scholarship Criteria and Eligibility:

Annual scholarship award(s) will be made to senior high school student(s) who plan to go on for advanced or vocational education and reflect Tyler’s spirit and interest in Sports, English, Language and Art (ELA) at the Marathon High School.

Seeking applicants who show determination and potential for achievement, kindness toward others, an overall positive attitude; and who have participated in Golf, Tennis or Basketball or those interested in majoring in English, Language and Art or related subjects in college. Year: High School Seniors

Award: Range from $500 to $1,000

Application Due: May 1, 2025

Submission: May be in written essay or Q/A form. Please include your name, address, phone number and email address.

  • Describe how you meet the scholarship criteria information above, as specific as possible?
  • Tell us about one event or person in your life that has been a role model for you.
  • What are your plans after graduation from High School?
  • Include with your submission at least one reference from a teacher or a coach.

The funds may be utilized for tuition, books, room, and board. The scholarship payment will be made directly to the student as approved by the Foundation’s selection committee.

The Scholarship will be announced and presented at the Marathon High School Graduation awards ceremony in late May.
