Key West Cultural Center and Veterans Museum

Mission

To celebrate the diverse culture, art, and music in Key West, and preserve the stories of
military veterans and their families who have and continue to shape Key West.
By honoring their collective service to society, safeguarding their legacies, ensuring their
voices and actions are known, and providing educational opportunities to open the
hearts and minds of all who visit physically or virtually.

Vision

Become a center for cultural activities which benefit the community and visitors alike, and
a premier museum destination and information center.

The William Weech American Legion Post 168 is truly one of a kind. Established in 1946, during segregation, by black WWII veterans returning to Key West. Members build their post home, opening in 1952, with their own hands. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Florida African-American Heritage Trail. Post 168 at 803 Emma St., Key West, continues to help veterans, their families and the local community.
