Nonprofit Needs “Wish List” for COVID-19 Relief

One way we’re helping our Keys community deal with the growing effects of COVID-19 is by collecting pressing nonprofit needs for potential funding opportunities. This list is a way to share needs with our donor fundholders and other potential funders in the Keys and beyond.

The needs were collected from Health and Human Services and Animal Welfare charitable organizations dealing with our residents’ critical unmet needs, such as food and supplies. The appeals were limited to $5,000.

The needs listed here have been partially funded by grants from the Florida Keys Emergency Relief Fund at CFFK and from private donors. However, the needs are ongoing and more funding is needed to meet the current demand.

The nonprofit wish list is alphabetical by organization and detailed information is displayed by clicking “More Info.” If you’re interested in funding a needs request from a donor fund managed by CFFK or have other questions, please contact cffk@cffk.org or call 305-292-1502.

More information on the Emergency Relief Fund at CFFK and grants that have received funding is available here.

Thank you for helping make a difference to so many in need.

We have been in operation since 1985 at our Key Largo location providing hands on marine science programs to hundreds of school groups annually, including our local schoolchildren. Like many non profits, we support ourselves through program service fees, but COVID-19 shut us down for nearly the entirety of our spring season in 2020, causing us to lose more than half of our annual budget – and we don’t know what will happen in the fall.  Our campus in Key Largo is large and we have a dedicated, highly-trained staff that provide outstanding marine science education programs.  In order to continue fulfilling our mission, we’ve pivoted to providing virtual and streaming programs,. Our programs are science-based and high quality, and we want our online presence to reflect the same quality as our in-person programs. In addition, providing our virtual labs keeps our hands-on programs and mission in front of the public eye, so that teachers know that we will be here next year for their marine science field program. Your donations will help make sure we’re still here! They are gratefully accepted at www.mrdf.org or via mail to MarineLab/Marine Resources Development Foundation, 51 Shoreland Drive, Key Largo, FL 33037. If you have questions please call CEO Ginette Hughes at 305-393-0722.
