Following nine years of service, attorney and civic leader Gregory Oropeza retired from the Board of Governors of the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys. A native of Key West and managing partner of Oropeza, Stones & Cardenas, Greg has served in numerous leadership roles since he joined the Board in 2012, including most recently as Chair of the Grants Committee.
“Greg has been a vital part of the Community Foundation’s accomplishments over the past nine years,” according to Community Foundation Board Chair Dr. Susanne Woods. “Not only has he been a sure guiding hand as Chair of our Grants Committee, he has donated innumerable volunteer hours helping with legal and estate issues. We celebrate his love for the Keys and remain grateful for his generosity and his ongoing commitment to the community.”
During Greg’s tenure on the Board, the Community Foundation’s assets have tripled to $25 million in 2021 through more than 150 funds under management. Greg has been instrumental in the annual grantmaking of the Foundation and its generous fund partners – over $1 million annually through an average of 200 grants per year.
This year, the Community Foundation is celebrating a milestone anniversary of 25 years of connecting people, resources and needs through philanthropy throughout the Keys. Greg has been one of the contributors to its success. Over $31 million in community grants have been awarded since 1996.
“It’s been an honor, pleasure and privilege to be a part of an organization, and amongst individuals, whose sole focus is to bring positive change to the community,” says Greg Oropeza. “As Chair of the Grants Committee for the last few years, I was given the opportunity to see first-hand the support the Community Foundation provides our community.”
Greg will continue as a Board Advisor to the Community Foundation and serve as a member of the Grants Committee. He also serves on the Boards of A.H. of Monroe County and the Key West Fishing Tournament. A former Key West Planning Commissioner, Greg is a member of the Key West Rotary Club, Key West Gator Club, and Florida Blue Key Alumnus.
An active civic leader and donor, Greg will continue to champion nonprofits and charitable giving throughout the Keys. The Community Foundation thanks Greg for his tremendous service to the organization and the Keys community.
