Unsung Heroes Luncheon

2020 UNSUNG HEROES CELEBRATION

CFFK honored the tremendous efforts of volunteers from 83 nonprofits throughout the Keys at its 20th annual Unsung Heroes celebration on February 7th. Keys volunteers provide needed support for our community, including cleaning up beaches, fostering animals, mentoring students, delivering food to homeless shelters, performing dental work for youth in need, serving as tour guides, providing free legal and financial assistance, and much more.

The Unsung Heroes celebration is sponsored by the Lower Keys Medical Center and promotes volunteerism and civic engagement in the Keys. The honorees, who were nominated by Monroe County 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits, were presented with a Certificate of Recognition and honored at a luncheon at the Marriott Beachside in Key West. More than 1,300 volunteers have been recognized since the event began 20 years ago.

David Clay, CEO of the Lower Keys Medical Center, said, “We are pleased to help recognize incredible dedication and contributions of time and talent. Thank you to all of the caring and committed volunteers who serve our community every day.”

Nearly 23 percent of all Florida residents volunteer for nonprofits, contributing 341 million hours of service. Last year in America, 77.4 million people volunteered hours of service valued at $167 billion.

Since 2001, the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys has been hosting the annual Unsung Heroes event to recognize the tireless efforts of our community’s volunteers. Each Monroe County 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is invited to nominate one Unsung Hero to recognize that individual’s unpaid contributions over the past year.
